Colour wheel of the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable Development Goals

Through our work we support the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations. Our projects relate primarily to Goals 6, 11 and 13.

The goals our work relates to

Our projects relate primarily to Goal 6 – ensure availability of water and sanitation for all, Goal 11 – make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, and Goal 13 – take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

  • Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation

Ensure availability of water and sanitation for all.

  • Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

  • Goal 13: Climate action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Background

What the Sustainable Development Goals are

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are part of the 2030 Agenda adopted by UN member states in 2015. They consist of 17 goals covering areas from ending poverty and quality education to protecting the climate and ecosystems.

Background

Links to water management

Goal 6 relates directly to water supply, wastewater collection and treatment and the sustainable use of water resources. Goal 11 includes the resilience of cities to natural hazards, including floods. Goal 13 emphasises adaptation to climate change – for example better stormwater management and water retention in the landscape.

  • Residential building with a façade covered in greenery

    Comprehensive water management

Consultations for new development sites and existing urban areas, aiming to bring runoff conditions as close to nature as possible.

  • Green plant leaves in the rain

    Stormwater

Retention and use of stormwater at the point of impact, surface runoff modelling and verification of the effectiveness of proposed measures.

  • Aerial view of a stream flowing through a forest

    Rivers

River hydraulics, flood modelling, river revitalisation and renaturalisation. More than 4,000 km of hydrodynamic watercourse models.
