River hydraulics, flood modelling, revitalisation and renaturalisation of rivers are our most significant activities. Over more than 20 years on the Slovak market we have created more than 4,000 km of hydrodynamic mathematical models of watercourses.
Our main activities
Working with watercourses is at the core of our expertise. We have been creating hydrodynamic mathematical models of watercourses on the Slovak market for more than 20 years, with a total length exceeding 4,000 km.
- River hydraulics
- Flood modelling
- River revitalisation
- River renaturalisation
Background
What hydrodynamic modelling of watercourses is
A hydrodynamic mathematical model is a computer simulation of water flow in a river channel and the adjacent floodplain. Based on terrain, channel geometry, structures on the river (bridges, weirs, culverts) and discharges, it calculates water levels, flow velocities and the extent of flooding.
Models are used to assess floods of different magnitudes, to verify the impact of planned structures and river works, and to compare design options before they are built.
Background
River revitalisation and renaturalisation
Many rivers were straightened, narrowed or lined in the past. Revitalisation and renaturalisation aim to give them a more natural character again – for example a more varied channel, restored meanders or reconnection with the floodplain.
Such measures can improve the ecological status of a river, retain water in the landscape and attenuate the flood wave. Hydraulic modelling helps verify how a proposed change will affect water levels and flow.
