BREEAM Communities certifications

For planned projects as well as existing infrastructure, we prepare the parts of the BREEAM environmental assessment related to water.

What we prepare within BREEAM

We focus on the parts of the BREEAM environmental assessment that relate to water.

Project types

  • Planned projects
  • Existing infrastructure

Background

What BREEAM Communities is

BREEAM is an internationally used sustainability assessment method for the built environment, developed by the British organisation BRE. BREEAM Communities focuses on the masterplanning of larger areas – new neighbourhoods, development sites or large-scale regeneration.

The assessment looks at an area from several perspectives, including governance, social and economic wellbeing, resources and energy, land use and ecology, and transport.

Background

Water in sustainability assessment

Water-related topics include in particular flood risk assessment, management of surface water runoff and the water strategy of the area. These closely relate to flood modelling and stormwater management.

  • Residential building with a façade covered in greenery

    Comprehensive water management

Consultations for new development sites and existing urban areas, aiming to bring runoff conditions as close to nature as possible.

  • Green plant leaves in the rain

    Stormwater

Retention and use of stormwater at the point of impact, surface runoff modelling and verification of the effectiveness of proposed measures.

  • Colour wheel of the UN Sustainable Development Goals

    Sustainable Development Goals

Our projects support UN Sustainable Development Goals 6, 11 and 13 – water and sanitation, resilient cities and climate action.
